Rumours in town

Me and my guildmate Ilyan were having an ale at the local tavern, after a sword practise session, when our keen ears caught a rumour about something wicked in the woods. A farmer’s daughter, merchant from the neighbouring town and a tavern wench had gone missing in the past month. The rumour said they had gone to the woods after nightfall and never reached their destination. Ilyan and I decided to investigate. Well, Ilyan did, but it’s not often that I get to spend time with a handsome guy, so I couldn’t really chicken out.

Hunting the culprit

We ventured into the woods. Nothing we saw was out of ordinary, but the lack of sounds was alarming. No owl, no cricket, no frog, not even a distant wolf could be heard when we strolled forward trying to see if there was someone or something lurking in the moonlit darkness.

Only a faint whish in the air warned us that we had company, when the creature leaped down from the bridge above us. Thankfully we had our blades drawn, or the outcome of the ensuing combat would certainly have been different. The battle was heated and challenging. The vampire was a formidable opponent – too formidable for me. Thankfully Ilyan was more seasoned in combat. He managed to decapitate the beast, when it was frenzily charging at me, after I managed to accidentally drop my sword.
