Today I got sent to the Wraithwoods to make a story about the Ancient Forest Spirit, that was rumored to have been spotted in the region. As usual, I found the idea more than a little scary, because spirits tend to be rather nasty, but I packed my notebook and camera, good shoes for running just in case I need to flee with haste and made my way to the Wraithwoods.

The region was so green, beautiful and peaceful. I could totally live here, except for the tiny little fact that there was rumored to be a spirit. Anyway, I followed a little trail, when I heard joyous laughter ahead. I crept forward slowly and quietly, because I’ve heard spirits try to lure their prey to them with laughter, or was it mermaids, or something else?

I tiptoed onwards, and soon I saw a fairy and a nymph playing in the rocks and roots at the water’s edge. The nymph was somersaulting, hand standing and gliding along the roots of a tree into the lake. The fairy was floating in the air performing air acrobatics, and sometimes she took a fast dive into the lake to splash water into her friend. Both were laughing and enjoying themselves. I gotta get a picture of this! I opened my camera bag as quietly as I could.

It took me a while to attach the lens, because I had to avoid drawing any attention to me and the lens didn’t snap to its place nicely in the first or second try. When I finally had my camera ready, the fairy had grown tired and was taking a nap at a large rock. At least the nymph was still playing. While I was composing my shot and trying to find the best angle, a huge creature wandered in my view. I had never seen a creature like that. It was like elk but bigger and it looked much older than normal elk would. Oh my!! It must be the Ancient Forest Spirit. I snapped hastily a few shots and prepared to flee, but the Spirit just stood there for a while and then wandered off, not paying any attention to me, or the fairy and nymph.
