Today I was sent to the Misplaced Melody, which is a paradise for all the music lovers out there. My task was to interview the brothers Joe and Earl Morgan who are entertaining the visitors of the region with their jazz band, the Morgans. Finally, an assignment which doesn’t involve any dangerous creatures or stopping random people for an interview, because my boss had arranged this one beforehand! So, I travelled to the region with haste.

Once I arrived at the location where the Morgans were performing, there was total chaos, and no one paid any attention to me. I observed the happenings for a moment and was able to figure out that Simone, the female singer of the Morgans had been arrested by the pawlice for dealing illegal liquids. From what I gathered, the whole thing had been a misunderstanding, but she was still at the pawlice station, and the gig was about to start.

“Hey you!” Someone finally noticed me. By the look of him, he was the manager of the place. “You have a decent look for jazz. Do you know how to sing?”
“I, uhh…sing?” I stammered
“Oh, good!” The man grinned. “Joe! I got you a singer!”
“Excellent!” A tall man in blue jacket offered his hand to me with a smile. “Hello lady, I’m Joe. It’s a pleasure to perform with you tonight. We’ll be live in five.”
“Wait, live, what?!” I glanced around bewildered, but the manager of the place was already pushing me towards the microphone at the stage and Joe was giving me an encouraging smile.
“We’ll start with a duet, then you have a solo, then I have a solo and then we’ll repeat this three times and finally end with a duet.” Joe explained. “Don’t worry if you don’t know the lyrics, we’re in the Misplaced Melody, they’ll come to you.” He gave me a knowing smile.

So, there I stood in the middle of the stage with no clue what I was supposed to sing, not to mention that my singing voice has been compared to the sound two angry cats make when they fight. With my typical luck, the place was packed full, too. To my great surprise, when it came to my turn to sing, I innately knew the lyrics, just like Joe had said and I swear I had never heard the song in my life. Even greater surprise was that I actually sounded great. The audience loved us, too! After the gig, I asked Joe about it, and he just laughed and said it’s the magic of the region – everyone can sing pitch perfect and know the lyrics to the song they’re singing. Music is one of the great joys of life and there’s no better place to enjoy it than Misplaced Melody.
