Miss B. Haven was excited beyond anything, even more so than when her workers returned with news of the first nectar found. It was the first ball since she’d become queen. Of course she had attended plenty balls before, but this was special. She had to prove why she was worthy to rule after her mother had been sqaused by the bears that tried to steal the honey from her colony.

Miss B. had hired the best trapping engineers at this side of the forest. None of the insects really liked the spiders, but she’d promised that all the carrion flies they might accidentally catch were there to eat. And even less liked the carrion flies, they were bullies and they always tried to make themselves lords of the forest. But they could never be allowed that title. She on the other hand was royalty and she was the only to rule.

She had managed a majority support on this contract. Even the smaller, more common fly had agreed to support her, in return for a small part of the honey, and support from the bees if the humans ventured too far into the flies’ feeding and pleasure areas
